
Paul M. Parizel is the inaugural David Hartley Chair of Radiology at Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) and the University of Western Australia (UWA), where he is a Full Professor and Director of the Western Australia National Imaging Facility (NIF) Node.
A board-certified radiologist with MD and PhD degrees, he graduated summa cum laude from the University of Antwerp in 1982, trained at Antwerp University Hospital, and completed neuroradiology fellowships at Harvard Medical School and the University of Brussels. From 2003 to 2019, he chaired the Radiology Department at Antwerp University Hospital and was a tenured professor at the University of Antwerp.
Prof. Parizel has led major radiological societies, including as President (2016-2017) and Chair of the Board (2017-2018) of the European Society of Radiology (ESR). He is an Honorary Member of numerous international radiology organizations and has received prestigious awards, including the ESR Gold Medal (2021) and Schinz Medal (2018). He currently serves on the Executive Committee of the World Federation of Neuroradiological Societies (WFNRS, 2022-2026).
A leading researcher in neuroradiology and medical imaging, he has authored over 500 peer-reviewed papers, 40 book chapters, and multiple books, with an h-index of 75 (Google Scholar). He has supervised 17 PhDs and delivered more than 500 invited lectures. He is a corresponding member of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Belgium.
